Albumen Print making £190 BOOK NOW
Experience the creative joy of making albumen prints - photography using egg whites! With a secret vegan alternative available for you to try at home!
Each albumen print is unique, due to its hand-coated, hand-printed technique, and with a timeless feel whatever the subject - from classic portraits to stylish still lives, or beautiful botanical prints to dynamic rock stars in action,
The experimental artistic/scientific albumen process was first recorded in 1850, and it took half a century for it to become commercially available, but by the mid-20th century it was rarely used any more. Today it is viewed as a specialist alternative to conventional darkroom printing, and stands in complete contrast to the immediacy of digital photography.
During this one-day workshop you will be shown how to make albumen mixture and coat paper, prior to mixing the sensitising solution and applying this. Using your own images, you will expose digital negatives (made by us in advance) on our state of the art UV unit. We will explain how to calibrate digital files to create optimal acetate negatives for the albumen process. You will leave with stunning and unique prints!
No previous photography or darkroom experience necessary.
All materials included in the fee.

Join Milena Michalski and Elisabeth Scheder-Bieschin for an adventurous camera-less photographic workshop. During the course of the day you will discover how to harness the chemistry of plants - flowers, weeds, fruit and vegetables - to make experimental prints using plant developer and other weird and wonderful ingredients, all in full daylight.
You will learn how to make your own non-toxic, plant-based developer, from easily available ingredients, and how to apply it to a variety of cameraless techniques such as lumen prints, chemigrams and photograms.

You will come away with a collection of exquisite and unique prints.
