The BBC drop by to film in Darkroom

How excited were we when the BBC asked if they could use Darkroom to shoot an interview with renowned music photographer Michael Putland!

To tie-in with the release of the forthcoming movie Rocket Man, a biopic about Elton John, The One Show will screen a profile of the photographer who was there at the beginning of the superstar’s career. Putland was filmed in our darkroom talking about some of the iconic photographs he has taken of the singer over the years and reminiscing about some of the wild times too. Surrounded by priceless vintage prints he explained that the long-term working relationship was born out them both growing up in northwest London.

In addition to Elton John, Putland has photographed all the greats, from Bowie to Bolan, The Stones to The Who. In fact he thinks The Who at The Marquee were the first band he photographed and he considers them one of his favourite subjects.
